Primet Forms Battery Research Team
February 17, 2011 | Ithaca, NY | Primet Precision Materials is pleased to announce that it has strengthened its battery materials team with the hiring of Dr. Venkatesan Manivannan and Dr. Shoufeng Yang. They will lead the company’s efforts in the discovery of critical material synthesis and particle parameters that lead to peak battery performance.
Dr. Manivannan is a solid state chemist with extensive background in materials synthesis, processing and characterization. He has made significant contributions in the field of lithium ion battery technology and holds numerous patents for his work, both as inventor and co-inventor. Dr. Manivannan completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin under Professor John Goodenough, the world-renowned pioneer in the lithium ion battery field.
Dr. Yang has over 12 years experience in battery research and development, including 5 years in industry. He brings considerable experience in the design of battery cells to his role at Primet. Dr. Yang received his PhD from Binghamton University where he studied under Dr. M. Stanley Whittingham whose groundbreaking work led to the commercialization of the first lithium ion battery in 1978.
The team will be working in Primet’s newly completed cell fabrication and testing lab. They will collaborate with the company’s process engineers and material scientists to further advance Primet’s ability to exploit its unique process technology to produce materials that not only have good electrochemical properties but are also user-friendly in cell manufacturing facilities.
